My Trip Down 2011 Memory Lane

This year has been an interesting year. I was going to write an article about New Year's resolutions for 2012, but it seemed like a hypocritical thing for me to do (my resolutions are made with good intent but rarely followed through on).

Instead, I would like to take a trip to 2011 Memory Lane and remember 10 significant events from this year. So, grab my hand and follow me...

Westminster Abbey was the location of The Royal Wedding on April 29. Prince William and Catherine "Kate" Middleton exchanged wedding vows, also including a prayer they wrote themselves, "God our Father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage."

This wedding is sentimental for many because of people's love for Princess Diana. I still remember when his mother tragically died from a car accident and the forlorn face he wore at her funeral.

According to MSNBC, Osama bin Laden, the man responsible for the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and the destruction of the World Trade Center, was found in a compound in Pakistan and killed after a gun battle with U.S. Navy SEALs and the CIA on May 2.

The hunt for Osama bin Laden lasted nearly ten years and is considered to be the largest manhunt in the world.

After a quarter of a century, The Oprah Winfrey Show taped its final episode. Oprah operated the longest talk show in history, beginning in 1986 and ending on May 25. She is also one of the richest woman in America, according to Forbes 400, with a net worth of $2.7 billion.

Occupy Wall Street is a protest movement that began on September 17 in Manhattan's Financial District and has continued to spread. This protest is operated by a group of people who are tired of the economic condition of our country, partly due to the power that corporations and banks have over democracy.

In honor of the people who lost or sacrificed their lives on September 11, 200e this date marks the 10-year anniversary to the terrorist attacks against our country. Nearly 3,000 people died that dieay, and more than 6,000 were injured.

Osama bin Laden masterminded the attack on our country resulting in the largest manhunt in this world. His capture and death was recent, and he was found in a compound in Pakistan and executed by U.S. Forces.

On August 23, an earthquake in Virginia, with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter Scale, was the strongest recorded earthquake on the East coast since 1944. The force of the earthquake caused cracks to form in the Washington Monument. and also damages the National Cathedral.

Steve Jobs, Apple's co-founder, died on Wednesday, October 5 at the age of 56. He is called a "visionary leader" for Apple. He played a significant role in the development of the iPad, iPhone, and iPod and changed the history of computers and mobile phones.

A long battle with pancreatic cancer caused him to step down as Apple CEO before he passed away.

According to the United States Department of Labor, unemployment rates in America dropped to 8.6 percent in November. This information is retrieved from the Current Population Survey, which is conducted by the Bureau of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
